Discovery: Poetry in Stitches

While surfing on the net, I discovered this lovely book, full of amazing photographs and knitting designs by Solveig Hisdal. She is a Norwegian designer who visited museums all over her country and used the treasures that her ancestors left behind as her greatest source of inspiration.
'Poetry in Stitches' shows how the creativity of the past has inspired her to make wonderful knitted designs.

On a rainy wednesday, I went to a town in The Netherlands, to a shop where I bought this book.

The first design I choose to knit
I wanted a project that was not too complicated and with yarn that I could buy in my LYS. So, this 'camisole' became my first knitting project from this lovely book.

And this is the result:

I knitted one top for my daughter but it turned out too large for her, so I kept it for me. I started all over again in a smaller size for her. We are both happy with the result!

Sock - story

After many, many years of inactivity on the knitting front, I began to have interest in knitting again. In fact, I wanted to knit socks. My children are adults now and moved out to create their own homes. I had some time left, beside my work.

In my teens, I once knitted socks: red knee socks in a bulky yarn.  My boyfriend, now my husband, had a motorcycle and we thought red, knitted kneesocks would look nice with his black, leather suit and boots. And indeed, we liked it!  We have no photographs of that outfit. I don't even remember how I knitted them, but I presume without any pattern! But now, I wanted to learn to knit  'real', regular socks. With a real pattern. So, I  searched on the internet and found this book:

That's the way to knit 'real' socks!

Very clear explanations ! I searched for my old knitting-needles: we called them 'knitting irons'. My next step was a visit to the  LYS, where I bought colourful yarn.
And the result was this kind of socks:

Sock - knitting with a view

The first try were socks for me, then for my husband, our children en their partners. We all agreed on the fact that knitted socks were much more comfortable to wear than the socks you buy in the stores. Last year, my husband bought a motorcycle again, no leather suit but knitted 'real' socks!

I don't have pictures of all the socks I made, but believe me, it is quite a collection. I carried my WIP (work in progress) everywhere.
This was the beginning of my knitting journey two years ago. Nowadays, I think I'm ('really') addicted.....

Try-out

This is a try-out to make a blog about knitting.  I like knitting, and my motto is 'All you Knit is Love'!

I'll try to tell now and then about my projects and my journey through 'wool- and knit land'. I'm a Dutch speaking Frenchspeaking Belgian, so my English will have a Belgian touch! Feel free to let me know when I'm going too far in this.
I presume blogging will take me some time, so I hope to keep some time free to knit :-)
